Compassionately Leading People Toward Wholeness
In 2004, a group of Christian lay people with a vision to create a place for persons with mental illness began meeting. In 2007, Crown Centre for Counseling, a 501C3, non-profit, Christian counseling organization established in 1988, merged with this group of lay people to form SpringHaven in a collaborative mental health effort.
In March of 2007, another Christian counseling organization, Cornerstone Psychological Affiliates of Berlin, was purchased, creating a three-way merger. The organization was officially named SpringHaven, Inc in April 2007. SpringHaven established the main campus at The Pier in Mt. Eaton in the fall of 2007. The north campus near Rittman remained at Crown Hill Mennonite Church.
In 2008, LaVina Miller Weaver was hired as Executive Director. She brought her private practice, Oasis Counseling, creating the fourth merging entity. That summer the current mission, vision, and values statement was developed to reflect the current sense of call and ministry. Also, in 2008, an Amish Advisory Committee was established to assist in identifying and meeting counseling needs of Amish in the community.
After much prayer and discernment, the Board decided SpringHaven needed its own space. With overwhelming support from the community, a 14 acre property was purchased on Durstine Rd. near Mt Eaton, Ohio. SpringHaven’s main campus moved to its current location in the fall of 2010. Since that time, renovations and additions have provided a spacious and serene setting where those with emotional and mental health needs can find compassionate and caring counseling services.
